First produced in the late 1970’s in Ontario, Canada, Sour Patch Kids were based on a product called Mars Men. They were created by Frank Galatolie in the 1970’s. Originally, Sour Patch Kids were shaped as martians, to capitalize on the space enthusiasm of the 70’s. They transformed into children to capitalize on the crazy success of Cabbage Patch Kids in the 1980s. No matter the shape of these “sour then sweet” candies, they are a huge success.
